Dave spent a little more than a month building our skin on frame boats. I asked him to add the yin yang dragons to mine on the bow.

Button, button what a beautiful button!

I realized that the pictures I took of the camera case did not really show how beautiful that button was so I took close up pictures of it this morning. (My camera is awesome in the macro setting)

Knitting projects and new camera

I bought a canon power shot camera A570 last week so we could take pictures of the race as well as holiday pictures.
So now I can send the great grand parents pictures of our grand kids.
Above is the cover I made for the camera so the strap can stick out. It is really thick yarn so it should pad it pretty well. I had finished my Mom's scarf from christmas with the same yarn while we were at the pass last week end so now I can send it to her in Calif.

Deception pass dash Dec 2nd

Race
registration
8 am

The race begins at 9:45

Beautiful sunset at the pass

We were up at Deception pass for the 2nd annual pass dash. We arrived on Friday afternoon so we went for a paddle in Bowman bay till we could park our trailer in our camp site. Then off to get the skin for our skin on frame boats Dave is making. The sunset above was from Friday night.

Saturday morning we woke up to snow on the ground and some rain with wind tossed in there from time to time. In the afternoon a few people arrived for the week end. After they got back from a paddle we all went out to dinner at Deception pass cafe. There was about 20 of us with just one waitress. I have to say she did a great job and got tipped well. We just felt bad for the non paddle people who came in while we were all there as this is a small cafe.

Sunday morning everyone slowly gets up to get ready for the race. We had cinnamon rolls which Cathy popped in cuz she smelled something yummy. Once the race began there was food to get ready for the hungry paddlers. There was a lot of wind on the course that they had to deal with so they needed to be warmed up and fed. By the time the race was over there was concern over the wind so we left as we did not want to get caught in the worse part of the storm coming. We made it home within 3 hours.

Spinning wheel for me

I finally finished my ashford kiwi and put it together. Last night I tried spinning on it so now I have some over spun yarn. I got picture of the yarn on the bobbin so you can see my maroon yarn I spun the other night. The twist has relaxed some.

Here are a few pictures of the fiber festival in Sequim on Oct 6th.
This was the demo area. Where there were looms such as the triangle loom which I have never seen one till then. We got to spend time with those sweet alpaca's which I took home some of their wool ( Thanks Illaya)
We spent 3 to 4 hours there checking out everyone displays and the demos. We then went over to "Drop stitch yarn shop" Very nice store just too bad I spent most of my money at the fiber fest and the open air market! We went back to Illaya's home and my time spent there was just too short but it was fun!
The next day was my sock yarn dye class with Amelia. I learned quite a bit and met some new people.
I plan on going again next year.

Angora wool

Last week I happen to go past a sign that said herbs, plants and spinning supplies. That is all it takes to get me to check it out "herbs, plants and spinning" LOL

By the time I got done at the shop I came home with some calendula soap and some unspun angora wool. It is sooooo soft and it had been dyed blue. I found some slickers to comb it with so I can set about spinning on my spindle.

This got me thinking how I would like to have my own bunnie to have as a pet as well as for the wool. This would give me a way to come up with my own yarn spun from my own pet. So I have been researching raising angora rabbit's and joined a angora yahoo group so I can learn about them.

What I am working on

After I finished my neighbor's fingerless mittens. I started a scarf using lion brand landscapes yarn for Dave. It is about half way done now. I got this yarn because the colors match the fleece hat I bought him a few years ago.

Fire in Olalla

Today Olalla is in the news. So far more than 5 acres have burned between Mullenix and Carriage. The latest is that it is almost controlled but they have fire crew and the sherrif dept down here on our road to keep watch as the woods that is near us is part of the DNR forrest that is burning.

PS: I read that the fire burned 10 acres but no homes were damaged.

Spinning on Knitty Gritty

Yea! I was flipping the channels around and found that Knitty Gritty was on. They had the editor of Spin off magazine there along with spinners with wheels and spindles. My DH was LOL cuz I had this smile on my face cuz I found it. Now I want to break out my spindle but I have so many other things I have to do before I can do that like finish off a couple birthday presents for this month and bead some felted balls.

All that work

I had spent part of the day working on blog ring buttons. I had about 4 or 5 of them all set up. I thought I did a good job but somewhere along the way I deleted them ugh!!!

So you would think it would be easy to get them back right??? I went to the ring site then signed in but it kept saying that there is no member with that name and password. Soooo I sent for the info so I could log in to get them all back again. The email arrives and it gives me the same info I had been putting in. So go figure that one huh?

I did that the other day with my blog links so I just put them back up yea!!!!

I got a deal

Today I was out in Silverdale to meet with my friend Illaya while she had a Doctor appointment.
Anyways after we parted I went to Joann's looking for the spin off magazine. Of course they were out and I guess I have to wait till the next one comes out. Anyone know when that is?

I wandered over to the yarn to see what they had on sale. Boy did they have a good deal! I got lion brand landscapes yarn in spring desert for .97 cents vs the regular price of $6.99. Of course they only had 1 color so I bought 4 skeins, 2 will be to make the scarf pattern on the band. The other 2 I will use to make up knitted coffee and needle cozies.

Did I score or what?????

Felted coffee cozy

I am one of those people who burns easy so I have to have one of those cardboard things on my coffee cup.

So I decided to make one up for my cup. I used lion brand wool yarn using the hdc crochet stitch . then tossing in the wash to felt it.

I enjoy it keeping my hands heat free and it is colorful too.

Knitting needles

These are some needles I made up last year with dpn's. I got the idea after reading a book on modular knitting. I got these beautiful beads from a swap so I paired them up with the bamboo dpn's to make 7" needles.

Felting 101

On the Left is a picture of what I now call my fuzzy brain. It all started out as a ruffled coffee cozy like the blue one on the right. I thought I was following the directions on the pattern right but I ended up using a whole skein of yarn. It was one big ruffle so I tossed it into the wash machine. It came out looking like this so I was showing my family and we all thought hey it looks like a brain so that is why it is now known as "My fuzzy brain".
So I got to work making up my own version of the coffee cozy so the blue cozies on the right turned out a lot better and I did not use a whole skein to make them. The one with the ruffle is mine and the one without is for my husband Dave.
I am now working on a beaded version of the coffee cozy to be posted soon. I can't wait to see what they look like once they have been felted.

Drop spindle

This is the drop spindle I had made for me by Jen at Crowhill House Fiberworks. I have used it a bit to make some nice looking singles. It is done in the om design she has many different designs she uses to paint on spindles and knitting needles.
